During my college years at St. Norbert College, I had the opportunity to do volunteer work with older adults in St. Louis, Denver and finally an internship at the Brown County Commission on Aging. These experiences helped me find the work that I love.

I started my career at the Brown County Commission on Aging and later accepted the position here. I’ve been manager at Fort Howard apartments for almost 30 years. My position here is the perfect blend of administrative duties and the interaction with residents that I enjoy so much. Best of all, I enjoy the challenge of thinking of new ways to make Fort Howard Apartments an even better place live!

Gail Wirtz, Service Coordinator Fort Howard Apartments

The Service Coordinator position is an idea that HUD has developed and supported in Senior Housing during the past 20 years. For me, it is a wonderful opportunity to provide assistance to residents. I connect them with services so they can remain as independent as possible and hopefully make their home here for many years. For these past 15 years, I have enjoyed being part of a staff that creates opportunities for social activities and supports the concept of a caring community.

David Wirtz, Building Maintenance Fort Howard Apartments

Providing building maintenance at Fort Howard Apartments has been an ideal job for me these past seven years. This job allows me to draw from my knowledge and experiences in both mechanical and construction fields. It has been enjoyable to be involved in all the modernization and improvements to our building and grounds which have occurred during this time. I look forward to our plans for the future.
